Song: Kabuki by Lisa Furukawa Ray ( Downloadable from her site!)
It’s April 2009 and xD Anime Network plans yet another phase of it’s history. Every year for the past four I head down (up and over rather) to the Nashville Tennessee area to attend the Middle Tennessee Anime Convention (MTAC). This year marked number four with MTAC Ninja (Ninja being the theme). Every year it gets larger and larger and I see tons of people I recognized from the previous year and even from year one.
Though awesome, I was very lazy this year and did not go to many panels. In part this is because of the freaking long waiting lines for the big events at MTAC. Every year I make sure to attend the Lisa Furukawa Ray (song at top) concert as well as the cosplay contest, though this year was short of surprises from the funny dressed folks. A few years back a staff member proposed on stage and this was followed the next year by a public wedding and a proposal of it’s own by a couple dressed in marriage outfits from the Final Fantasy game series. Though we were all rewarded with a nice impromptu gay kiss, it did not beat the one a few years ago between the couple chained together in the Soubi and Rituska outfit (Loveless).
We flew in on a Thursday evening to which we were delayed in Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport for roughly four hours due to “Tornados” in the area. Luckily this allowed us to miss the emergency meeting in the basement at the hotel we were scheduled to stay at in our nice little Junior Suite. I mean, yes the hotel is nice, but making me pay 12 or so bucks for internet, plus 130 for the room… I expect free internet in my room damnit! Food prices were high and a movie in the room was all of 15 bucks to which I could have bought one from the store… If you care to know we watched Slumdog Millionaire.
Other then the high costs at the hotel for no extra benefits, it’s a rather nice place with tons of space but the shape makes most lines a bitch. They toss tables in bad locations that cause lines to become deformed as well as people bitching at you for not being in front of them (And to the bitch who yelled at us, we got permission from the “Public Security” with the nice hat ( love your hat <3 ) to do what we did. ). In general, the lines move, but general shape is not set up for that especially for the big events like the cosplay contest.
After my three plus hours of waiting in line for a single event I’m way too lazy to attend other events that are immediately after. I did how ever attend the Y.A.O.I. event, which was delayed and then stopped early due to another panel starting. Troubles right and left with the movie and we only got to watch one Episode of “Sensitive Pornography” ( D= ) which I’ve already seen thanks to Aarin Fantasy.
But from all of it still comes a fun experience. It’s pretty awesome to see some of the people dressed up who come to these events, funny outfits, skimpy clothing, and completely miss-matched j-pop style wear. Every year changes, the people change but the funny bald staff guys do not. If you’re not going for the anime, at least go to see them.
Thanks to the awesome people of Serenity Designs I’ve noticed that we don’t work well in Internet Explorer. People still use that? I thought it was removed when they discovered everyday DOS was out of date. Never-the-less, Most things work right and the tech department is rushing to the admin panel to poke around and see if it will be nice and fix itself.
In the meantime, go to www.getfirefox.com and download Mozilla Firefox. It actually works as a web-browser. Might as well use those strictly text and non-graphical web-browsers if you’re not going to use it. Tis about what IE is worth. Besides, anime likes Firefox (And Linux!)
-Cheer.- I added another review just now, adding onto the two that I have had sitting on my computer for months and months. Check out the review for So Long, Mr. Despair!
Second I added music! The opening song to each anime will be listed on their respective pages. Just click the little button and sit back and relax. Flash is required.
Next, xDAnime[dot]Net is working on getting back-up and running providing anime to fulfill your needs! This was the real reason this site was created. And after a few years of being closed, we’ve decided to work hard to get it back open.
Alright, so I keep saying I’m going to work but I stall out. Finally, I’ve decided that I AM going to work. I’ve watched a couple new anime’s and there are a few I still need to write a review on. My list currently consists of the following:
So Long, Mr. Despair!
Gravitation
Loveless
Chobits
Ghost in the Shell – Stand Alone Complex
Just to name a few of the ones that I want to get working on. I’ve seen a lot of anime, but I need to just sit down and rack my brain on remembering the finer points in it. I’ve promised my self over the next few days that I’ll write more reviews.
I’ve also pondered adding trailers to the site on each review location. This will help people get a visual view of the show compared to our textual one. Furthermore we’re working with supplies in bringing back our online anime store. This will allow us to bring the anime direct and interlink it within the review site. Offering you instant shopping experience.
